ACOTAR #2: A Court of Mist and Fury Review

!SPOILERS AHEAD!

So it has taken me a little over four days to finish the second book in Sarah J Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series and gosh I love it! It is so rich and immersive. The development for Feyre is amazing, she’s high fae! Her powers are incredible and the fact she joins the ever elusive Night Court and still continues to believe in good- she even allows the High Lord in on her goodness which seems to be catching within the court.

Now to say my favourite character in the first novel was Tamlin, I do quite dislike him from the description of how he behaves within this book. Tamlin keeps Feyre as a prisoner despite what she did Under the Mountain- they would not be here without her, what I would call, stupidity. She did everything for love and he kept her under lock and key when they finally got out! How dare he!!

Meanwhile we now have a new contender for my favourite character in this series, Rhysand. His love for her is pure, he wants them to be equals which was something that Tamlin could never imagine.

My favourite part of the book is when Feyre saves Rhysand despite her angry towards him She knows her value, and she knows what she should and shouldn’t be privvy to. He kept information from her and he deserved to be without her for doing so. She is a woman who knows her own mind, she is a woman who knows herself. Maybe she’s my favourite character?! Who knows, all I know is that I cannot wait to get to this next book. It is sat next to me right now calling my name while I’m writing this.

So, I didn’t really like this book as much as the first at the start but now I love it . The ending is such a good cliff hanger for the next book. I want to see what happens to Feyre, to Tamlin for all that he’s done, to Rhysand for love. I definitely need to give this a 5 Star rating on my GoodReads, once again when it is working again.

ACOTAR Review #1

So, I have just finished reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas and oh my god was I shocked at how much I loved it! It is such a fast paced read that I have actually read it all in 2 days!! I probably would have finished it within a day if I hadn’t had to do assignments for uni.

The book follows the young Feyre as she tries to feed her family through their poverty. She however runs into some issues in the forest where her life is forever changed by the creature she meets. She becomes imprisoned by a faery, she is free to roam the ground but is not allowed to escape her captor.

My favourite chapter of the novel is where Fayre realises how she feels for her captor, some might describe it to be Stockholm Syndrome but I do truly believe that she loves him; she has free reign to do whatever she pleases, she is not controlled by him- in a way I do not see her as a prisoner to him. More a companion, a lover.

The exploration of other world is perfect and I felt as though I never wanted to leave, as I said it did only take me 2 days to fully read it so I loved it! Feyre is a brilliant protagonist for the 1st person narrative; I truly felt immersed in the world as she saw it. Maas’s description and way with words made me feel like I was the one there, although the world building at the beginning I felt was slightly lacking it was soon made up for.

I am so excited to see where the next book takes us especially with the last line being “Lets go home”. It is a beautiful story of love and friendship overpowering rules and ‘villains’. I would recommend to anyone who loves fantasy, romance and adventures into forbidden lands.

If my GoodReads was up and running I would give this a 4 star rating, it is beautifully written and left me spellbound but I can’t help but feel the romance was slightly predictable- not saying I didn’t love it, because trust me I did!
